Message for September 2019

Teams at St David’s

Well England have made an incredible come back in the 3rd Test against Australia with Ben Stokes playing an amazing innings, but of course cricket is never about one person but about the whole team and St David’s is exactly the same, we are a team Church.

Peter wrote “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1Peter 2:9)

People have been asking me if I am counting the days down until my retirement. Well no, I am not at all. I am enjoying my last few weeks with people who God has placed on my heart for the last seven years. The last service at St David’s, for Kath and me, will be at 11am on Sunday October 13th, followed by a bring & share lunch and we are very much looking forward to being with you all on that day. Please do come along.

I am so pleased that our schools ministry will continue as part of the mission of St David’s. The Open the Book team will continue with assemblies in Broom Leys School and in Warren Hills School as Iain Allen, Ann Sankey, Jenny Holland and Mary Smith have agreed to lead these with Sandra Allen sorting out the rota.

Our High School lunch time drop in and charities course at Castle Rock will continue with our Youth Worker, Rachel Hyde-Monk, whilst continuing to run our drop in for Young People at St David’s on a Thursday.

I am also so pleased that our After School Church team have offered to continue with this wonderful service for parents / carers and their children on a Wednesday afternoon during term time. Iain Allen and Mary Smith have offered to lead and we are looking for another leader whilst Sue Clamp, Bec Burton and one of the After School Church parents will run the crafts and Liz Eames will sort out the rota.

This is in addition to Brigade, run by Vanessa and Tim Cole, which has continued to grow and Café Church, run by Jenny Holland and Jill Harris, for those seeking to enjoy companionship with one another in a Christian setting.

Jenny Holland in her role as Pastoral Care Assistant will take over our ministry in Tillson House as well as organising Home Communions.

We are of course a Church that operates in teams for Prayer, Worship, Mission, Finance & Funding, Fabric & Grounds, Communications, Ecumenical, Young People, Pastoral Care and Events and the many people involved in these ministries are named in the various group pages of this site and also in directory of the church magazine.

The interregnum will become the responsibility of the Churchwardens, Chris Liggins & Paul Bingley, supported by our Deputy Churchwardens, John Allwood and Alan Liggins, assisted by the Area Dean. The Archdeacon’s office will take responsibility for the process in appointing a new incumbent for St David’s, whilst our Treasurer Jill Harris, secretary Norma Bristoll, Safeguarding Officer Ann Sankey and Office Administrator Tim James will all take part in keeping our Church operating together with our PCC.

Prayer then for all these people and for the right candidate to be chosen, is vitally important for all at St David’s to discern God’s calling and desire for the next phase of his Church here. I am so pleased that Rachel Mawby will continue our monthly prayer meetings and prayer mornings that will focus prayer to our Lord for the right candidate and for all involved in the wonderful Church of St David’s.

Please take this opportunity during the next days, weeks and months to pray for your Church, as Kath and I will be praying for you. “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer”. (1Peter 3.12)

Andy & Kath August 2019.
