The last will be first and the first will be last!

Here we are ten years ago in July 2009, as a family, at my ordination as a Deacon at Leicester Cathedral, embarking on a journey called by Christ, already as an old man, into Christian Mission and Ministry. They were exciting times as we didn’t know what lay ahead of us and where God would be leading us.

Well, in October 2012, God led us very purposefully to the wonderful people of St David’s where Kath & I have lived and ministered with you for the last seven years.

I knew then that St David’s was the Church and the Parish that our Lord wanted us to serve in and I also knew in my prayers and in my heart, last year, that he was leading us away from this ministry. My time is up and although it may seem strange to many, we will be retiring from ministry at St David’s in October 2019. I have always learnt to obey our Lord’s calling and moving to another Church is unthinkable. St David’s people are our first and last full time ministerial post and it has been wonderful, challenging, joyful, sorrowful, tearful, transformational, worshipful, spirit filled, faithful and full of God’s grace. You will always have a really special place in our hearts, our first Church and our last Church!

Our last services will be on October 13th 2019 and it would be great to see you there and to say farewell.

My prayers have always shown me the love that God has for the people of this parish and also the times of refreshing and building on the lively foundations of faith and prayer that he wants to bring. St David’s has great Church wardens and a great PCC who I am confident will be able to guide you through the interregnum whilst you prayerfully choose your next minister. Please give them your support and your prayers and pray for who God would bring here to be with you.

The last few months have guided us in mission as we gave out ‘Trypraying’ booklets, guided us in prayer as we experienced ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ and guided us in boldness, as we invited people to share our faith with us in our ‘Open Air’ service.

This is a pattern to be repeated and to take part in, to be confident in and to be encouraged by. Remember our Lord is shining his light upon this parish and you his people.

Jesus cried out, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, 'Out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers of living water’" (John 7:37).  Let’s continue to ‘Grow in Christ and live in faith’.
