Message for July 2019
Our Summer Fair!
Our Summer Fair for 2019 is coming ever closer as Saturday 3rd August is the day we all come together as the body of Christ to put on a great day of fun, friendship and food for our community. Many people tell me how much they look forward to the St David’s Summer Fair, it has a history behind it!
I remember the year when we were rained on continually throughout the day, yet many people still came to support us, they didn’t want to let us down.
The Summer Fair then is a time of witness to our community, we seek to serve God and serve our neighbours by providing a place which has a sense of heaven about it, a sense of the kingdom of God through our working together for others.
We have joined in with the worldwide church in eleven days of prayer for the kingdom of God to come amongst us. During this time we prayed the Lord’s Prayer and this prayer:
your ascended Son has sent us into the world
to preach the good news of your kingdom:
inspire us with your Spirit
and fill our hearts with the fire of your love,
that all who hear your Word
may be drawn to you,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We prayed for our friends and our family, especially five people to come to know the love of Jesus Christ in their lives. We prayed for our community and our neighbours as well as our nation and our world.
What a wonderful answer to prayer it would be if we were able to bless our community through our Summer Fair. I do hope that you will be able to take part in it with us. We need much help and the articles in this magazine outline the help and donations you could provide.
The Summer Fair and the November Market are also vital activities for us in the financial viability of St David’s and its mission to our community. Our financial budget for 2019 includes £5,500 to be raised from the Fair and the Market together. Without this funding we would not be able to operate the Church as we currently do. Our own financial giving is not high enough. So taking part in the Fair and supporting it are part of our own generous giving to our Lord’s work and we are very grateful for all who take part so enthusiastically.
Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment is and he said “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22:34-
We strive, as best we can, to live these commandments out in our daily lives and even in our Summer Fair!
