The Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade

The Church Lads' and Church Girls' Brigade (CLCGB), often referred to as “The Brigade” is The Anglican Churches own uniformed youth organisation: welcoming children and young people of all faiths and none. This organisation has a lot of history for over 100 years.

The Brigade has been fulfilling its object to extend the kingdom of Christ among lads and girls'.

The Brigade, are learning to be better equipped to cope with the demands that society places upon them.

The Brigade creates a caring and safe environment in which friendships between young people and children and adults can be established and helps young people and children to grow in confidence, develop their skills and abilities enabling them to work together and show care and concern for others.

We encourage young people and children to explore their spirituality and respond to the Christian faith, and to develop their moral values and a respect for the environment.

The Brigade at St. David’s meets on a Thursday evening from 6.30pm to 7.30pm in the Church Halls

All ages from 5 years upwards are welcome.

Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade News

What a celebration we had on our last evening (14.09.17).

A farewell water fight but of course we didn’t get wet that was left to Neil to be absolutely soaked to the skin (see pictures, below). This was followed by hot dogs and beef burgers cooked by our resident chef Rob Taylor.

The good news is that the company is to carry on.

Vanessa Cole and her husband Tim have been involved with the Brigade for many years - Vanessa at Broom Leys and Tim at Hugglescote and also with Charnwood Battalion - are now taking over with the help of Daniel, Lesley, David and Jennifer.

We are not walking totally away as we will be purchasing tuck and any craft items needed. I will take over the treasurer’s job from Steve Willars who has been doing that work for us since 1999. So thanks to Steve for supporting the Brigade for many years. We also say thanks to Chris Taylor who has been our tuck shop lady since 1999 and reluctantly gives up serving the children with their sweets.

We will be having a few weeks break to ensure all relevant paper work is in order and the first night back will be Thursday 26th October 6.30pm.

We can say it will be strange not preparing for Brigade week in week out, but things change and this change is excellent news for St David’s.

We are planning, with Revd. Andy, a thanksgiving/celebration service to recognise our time in charge and this will include commissioning of the new officers.

You are all welcome to join us.

Ann and Alan Sankey

Be afraid - be very afraid!

Rest in Peace, Alan Sankey

On Thursday 12th April at 5.00pm there was a service of Thanksgiving at St. David’s to celebrate the life of our dear friend and brother, Alan Sankey.

The church was full to capacity (and more) testifying to the love and respect in which Alan was held.

Alan’s ashes were interred in the church memorial ground after the service.

The next Brigade meeting will be on Thursday 19 April.
