Message for April and Easter 2019

‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life’

Jesus told his friends and followers “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me”

 (John 14:6).

We can sometimes wonder what direction in life we are taking.  At the moment of writing the decisions to be made on Brexit seem to be chaotic. We hear reports of appalling shooting and killings of people in New Zealand at Mosques.  We see floods from a cyclone causing devastation and loss of life in Mozambique. So what is our direction, our way, our truth, our life?

We can be impacted so much by local, national and international news and by that which we see on social media, yet we have our focus in our life, that of the person of Jesus Christ.

It is through this focus that we see life in all its perspective, we see the simple normality and joy of life, we see the hope in life and we find peace, because we know that we are loved by Jesus Christ.

During Lent and Easter we are able to discover again, and perhaps in a deeper way, how that love is shown to us from God, our Father. We travel from the cross to the tomb and to the resurrection and ascension and the blessing of the Holy Spirit. Through this journey engaged in with St. David’s we come to know the way, the truth and the life for ourselves.

Our journey starts with a ½ day of prayer on Saturday 13th April from 10am to 2pm with resources to prepare us for the Easter journey. Simply drop in whenever you wish between these times.

We will then travel into Holy Week with a celebration service for Palm Sunday on 14th April and Morning Prayer at 9am and Night Prayer at 7:30pm from Monday to Wednesday. On Thursday we have a special service of Holy Communion at 10am and a Passover supper in the evening. Good Friday will see activities in the morning in Coalville with Churches Together and a service of ‘Reflections on the Cross’ at 2pm. Easter Sunday will bring to us a Dawn Service on Warren Hills Rock, meeting at St David’s at 5:30am, followed by breakfast, an 8am Communion service and a 10am Family celebration service. All of these activities are designed to bring us deeper into God’s love for us and to know the way, the truth and the life for each of us.

Don’t miss our Annual review of Church life and our way forward for 2019 / 2020 on Wednesday 10th April at 7pm in the Church Hall.

Come to know your way in Christ this Easter.

Reverend Andrew Rhoades, March 2019.
