Message for April 2017

Prayer, Tanzania and Lent

When I last wrote for this august publication I was yet to travel to Tanzania and looked forward to what I might experience and expressed my feelings of trepidation in journeying.

As many of you will already have heard, I had a wonderful series of experiences, learned huge amounts and am now busy reflecting on all that happened to me whilst I was there.

One of the amazing things I was privileged enough to witness was the role of prayer in the lives of

Tanzanian Christians. There was almost nothing that wasn’t accompanied by prayer:

The Sunday service at St. Mark’s Church, Mererani

All of this totally challenged my prayer life and my approach to everyday life, which I am still thinking through, but which also seems highly appropriate given that we have recently begun the season of Lent.

Lent has traditionally been a time when church people have sought to spend more time in their worship and prayer lives and so I continue to challenge myself and find encouragement in this season, to be more like those faithful people I met in Tanzania. I hope that you too will be both challenged and encouraged by them and that this will also bear fruit as we journey together towards the joy of Easter Sunday.
